The gas station outside Sam’s Club in Hempfield remains closed, but work was being conducted to repair a small attendant building that was damaged in a vehicle crash.

Repairs were underway Friday to a small building at a gas station outside Sam’s Club in Hempfield after a pickup truck slammed into it earlier this week.

Hempfield Fire Department Deputy Chief John Storey said firefighters rescued a person who was inside the attendant building at the time of the crash on Monday around 3:30 p.m. That person was not hurt.

“We had to extricate them out of the building due to the collapse,” he said.

A person driving the pickup had a medical issue and was injured. The driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital, he said.

There was significant damage to the building, Storey said. The gas pumps remained closed on Friday.

A spokeswoman from Sam’s Club could not provide a timeline for reopening of the station.
