Curious to know what a sweet potato pierogi tastes like? You’re in for a treat this weekend.

Gosia’s Pierogies will host a fall pierogi kickoff from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the business’s Unity distribution center.

Attendees can enjoy free pierogi samples, and those who purchase 10 dozen pierogies will receive one dozen free.

Pierogies available to sample will include sweet potato; potato and cheese; and potato, cheese and jalapeño, according to Gosia’s media representative Vanessa Capozzi.

Capozzi encouraged attendees to try the sweet potato option, which will be covered in brown sugar and butter.

“We want you to try something new,” she said.

Those who wish to attend should register by Thursday, but drop-ins are welcome, Capozzi said. Registration information can be found on Gosia’s website.

National Pierogi Day is celebrated a week after the event on Oct. 8.

Gosia’s opened this distribution center, located at 5803 Route 981, in June. The business’s handmade, frozen pierogies can be purchased at various grocery stores throughout the region or at the warehouse, which also offers bulk options.

Husband-wife duo Jan Rawecki and Terry Smith-Rawecki began selling pierogies at the farmers market in Ligonier, and Gosia’s has ballooned from there.

Both Jan Rawecki and Terry Smith-Rawecki are deaf, and most employees at their deaf-friendly business are partially or fully deaf.
