Representatives from Irwin police, the state banking and securities department and the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s office will discuss consumer fraud at a free presentation June 1 at the Lamp Theatre.

State Rep. George Dunbar, a Penn Township Republican, is hosting the “ScamJam!” event aimed at helping consumers avoid fraud schemes from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m at the theater, 222 Main St..

“Clearly, there are several fraud pitfalls that consumers should be aware of. Awareness is key and this event aims to better alert citizens before they become victims,” Dunbar said.

In addition to speakers, the event will include interactive presentations such as fraud bingo, he said.

“The Federal Trade Commission received nearly 3 million fraud reports in 2021 and close to $6 million in losses. Victims, often seniors, risk losing financial assets that took them years to accrue,” said Dunbar.

Those interested in attending can RSVP by calling 724-863-1585 or by visiting RepDunbar.com.

The 56th District includes North Huntingdon, Irwin, Manor and North Irwin and portions of Hempfield, Penn and Trafford.
