A 19-year-old Florida man died early Sunday after losing control of his car, which struck a golf business in Hempfield, officials said.

Michael W. Schiff was pronounced dead just before 2 a.m. at the site of the crash, which happened before 1 a.m. on East Pittsburgh Street/Route 130 near Corsi’s Indoor Golf & Pro Shop, Westmoreland County Deputy Coroner Joshua Zappone said.

Schiff died of blunt force injuries, according to Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha. His death was ruled an accident.

“Speed is believed to have been a factor in the incident,” Bacha said in a public information report.

No other cars or people were involved.

The crash happened near where Route 130 meets Route 30, less than a mile west of Westmoreland Mall. Schiff was driving a 2006 Mercedes-Benz C280 sedan east on Route 30 when he “failed to negotiate a sharp right curve in the roadway,” Bacha said.

His car then “traveled over the center concrete barrier, crossed the opposite lanes of travel, became airborne and struck the southwest corner of a commercial building (Corsi’s golf shop),” Bacha said.

“The vehicle came to rest on the roof, and the decedent was entrapped in the vehicle.”

Schiff was wearing a seat belt, the coroner’s report said.

It’s unknown whether factors such as cellphone use or other types of distracted driving played a role in the incident, Bacha said.

Toxicology tests are pending and the results will take several weeks.

The Pennsylvania State Police’s Greensburg barracks is investigating the cause of the crash. State police could not immediately be reached for comment.

Segal Funeral Home of Tampa, Fla., is handling Schiff’s arrangements.
