Fire severely damages North Huntingdon home, pets die
A fire severely damaged a home at 231 Main St. in North Huntingdon early Thursday afternoon, but no people were hurt.
Two dogs and two cats were in the home at the time of the fire, and one dog and one cat died. The other cat was still unaccounted for as of 5:30 p.m.
Fire Chief Skip Cook of Fairmont-Hahntown VFD said the call came in about 4 p.m.
“It was a great response from our company and the auxiliary companies,” Cook said. “The origin is kind of still under investigation but is somewhere on the first floor.
”The building suffered significant loss.”
“There was a lot of fire coming out of the front windows when we pulled up,” said Shane Spielvogle of North Huntingdon EMS/Rescue.
Homeowner Marvin Dally said no one was in the home at the time of the fire and that he had just come home from a shopping trip.
Dally and his wife planned to stay with their niece for the night.
The two of them have lived in the house for 29 years.
There was a heavy response to the fire. Those fire companies and EMS crews included: North Irwin, Strawpump, Larimer, Shafton , Hartford Heights, Fairmont-Hahntown, Paintertown, Circleville, Manor, Irwin, Adamsburg, Westmoreland City , Claridge, North Huntingdon EMS/Rescue as well as the North Huntingdon police.
