Food truck vendors will begin making regular appearances in Penn Township starting in April.

Food truck fans in Penn Township are in for a treat this April.

Township commissioners greenlighted a resolution that will bring food trucks to 1115 Harrison City Export Road.

Nicassio Enterprises received conditional-use approval to bring the vendors to the property, which is located about half a mile from the Giant Eagle grocery store location.

“I thought it would be a nice family-oriented thing to have in the community,” said business owner Ralph Nicassio.

The location will officially welcome its first food truck on April 8. Pittsburgh Street Pizza will serve its artisan pizzas and appetizers five evenings a week.

Nicassio would like to bring more food trucks to the location soon, including ones that offer morning and afternoon dining options. Under the resolution, no more than two vendors can conduct business on the property at one time.

The space will feature picnic tables and plenty of parking, Nicassio said. It will be open year-round as long as he can find vendors to operate in the space.

Nicassio described the location as “peaceful,” adding it is pet friendly.

“It’s something different,” he said. “You can go with your kids. It’s outside; people love doing stuff outside.”

Bill Roberts, the township’s community development director, said he believes the site will become “somewhat of an attraction.”

“(The property has) very good visual impact,” Roberts said. “There’s a lot of traffic that comes through there. People seem to flock to food trucks.”

Nicassio said he hopes to eventually build a brick-and-mortar building on the property.

If and when these plans come to fruition, the project would require land developmental approval from the township, according to Roberts.
