Fire engulfed this house on South Seventh Street in Youngwood on Saturday afternoon.

A fast-moving fire appears to have started on the back porch of a Youngwood home Saturday afternoon, according to Fire Chief Lloyd Crago.

“It’s probably going to be a total loss,” he said.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on South Seventh Street at 1:30 p.m. They were met with flames on the back porch that quickly spread through the rest of the two-story home.

A man and his son who were home at the time were able to escape with two dogs. The resident declined to comment.

A neighbor who declined to identify herself said she saw smoke pouring out of the front porch after another neighbor alerted her to move her car.

Firefighters were working 90 minutes after the initial call to douse any remaining hot spots, Crago said. A state police fire marshal who is a member of the Youngwood department made the initial determination of the fire’s origin.

Crago said it is believed to be accidental.
