Diocese of Greensburg reassigns 27 priests, approves 5 retirements

Bishop Edward C. Malesic has made a series of pastoral appointments involving 27 priests in the Diocese of Greensburg.

The announcements, which include retirements for five priests, were made in the affected parishes at weekend Masses June 8-9.

The complete list, with the effective dates of the different appointments, is as follows:

Retirements (effective July 1):

  • The Rev. Dennis A. Bogusz, of Cleveland, Ohio: from chaplain of St. Anne Home, Greensburg, to retirement with private residence.
  • The Rev. John M. Butler, of New Kensington: from pastor of St. Patrick Parish, Brady’s Bend, to retirement with private residence.
  • The Rev. Vincent J. Gigliotti, of Monessen: from pastor of St. Anne Parish, Rostraver, to retirement with private residence.
  • Monsignor Michael W. Matusak, of Latrobe: from pastor of St. Therese, Little Flower of Jesus Parish, St. John the Evangelist Parish, St. Joseph Parish and St. Mary (Nativity) Parish, all in Uniontown, vicar forane (dean) of Deanery V and all other diocesan assignments to retirement with residence at the priests’ retirement facility in Greensburg.
  • The Rev. John S. Szczesny, of New Kensington: from pastor of St. Joseph Parish, administrator of St. Mary of Czestochowa Parish, both in New Kensington, to retirement with private residence.

Vicar Forane (Dean):

The Rev. Michael J. Crookston, of Irwin: to vicar forane (dean) of Deanery V, while remaining as pastor of The Epiphany of Our Lord Parish, Monessen, and St. Sebastian Parish, Belle Vernon.

  • Monsignor Michael J. Begolly, of Vandergrift: to pastor of St. Joseph Parish and St. Mary of Czestochowa Parish, New Kensington, while remaining pastor of Mount St. Peter Parish, New Kensington.
  • The Rev. Jose Ricky F. Cortez, of the Philippines: from pastor of Christ, Prince of Peace Parish, Ford City, and pastor of St. Lawrence Parish, Cadogan, to pastor of St. Patrick Parish, Brady’s Bend.
  • The Rev. Eric J. Dinga, of Ford City: from administrator to pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish and St. Rose Parish, Latrobe.
  • The Rev. Douglas E. Dorula, of Uniontown: from pastor of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Kittanning, and administrator of St. Mary, Mother of God Parish, Yatesboro, to pastor of SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish, Fairchance, and St. Hubert Parish, Point Marion, with residence in SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish Rectory, Fairchance.
  • The Rev. William J. Lechnar, of Uniontown: from pastor of Church of the Good Shepherd Parish, Kent, to pastor of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Kittanning, and St. Mary, Mother of God Parish, Yatesboro, while remaining diocesan director of pilgrimages, with residence in St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Rectory, Kittanning.
  • The Rev. Anthony J. Klimko, of Uniontown: from administrator to pastor of St. Therese, Little Flower of Jesus Parish, St. John the Evangelist Parish, St. Joseph Parish and St. Mary (Nativity) Parish, all in Uniontown, with residence in St. Therese, Little Flower of Jesus Parish Rectory.
  • The Rev. Matthew J. Morelli, of New Alexandria: from parochial vicar of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, to pastor of Church of the Good Shepherd Parish, Kent, while continuing as assistant to the Very Rev. Daniel C. Mahoney, as bishop’s representative for Matters Pertaining to the Celebration of Mass in the Extraordinary Form.
  • The Rev. James B. Morley, of Latrobe: from parochial vicar of St. Paul Parish and St. Bruno Parish, both in Greensburg, to pastor of Church of the Resurrection Parish, Northern Indiana County, and chaplain to SCI Pine Grove, Indiana.
  • The Rev. David J. Nazimek, of Republic: from pastor of St. Regis Parish, Trafford, to pastor of St. Anne Parish, Rostraver, and administrator pro tem of Holy Family Parish, West Newton, with residence in the St. Anne Parish Rectory, Rostraver.
  • The Rev. E. George Saletrik, of Uniontown: from pastor of Church of the Resurrection Parish, Northern Indiana County, and chaplain to SCI Pine Grove, Indiana, to pastor of St. Regis Parish, Trafford.
  • The Rev. Daniel J. Ulishney, of Hempfield: from parochial vicar of the partner parishes of Immaculate Conception, St. John the Evangelist and St. Rita in Connellsville and St. Aloysius Parish, Dunbar, and assistant chaplain of Geibel Catholic Junior-Senior High School, Connellsville, to pastor of St. John Baptist de La Salle Parish, Delmont, and St. Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Export, with residence in St. John Baptist de La Salle Parish Rectory, Delmont.

Senior Priest Active:

The Rev. Anthony W. Ditto, of Connellsville: from chaplain to the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Clelian Heights School, Greensburg, to senior priest active with pastoral and sacramental ministry to Mother of Sorrows Parish, Murrysville.

  • The Rev. Elmer Q. Alforque, of the Philippines: from parochial vicar pro tem to parochial vicar of St. Sebastian Parish, Belle Vernon, and The Epiphany of Our Lord Parish, Monessen, with residence in St. Sebastian Parish Rectory, Belle Vernon.
  • The Rev. Daniel E. International Priests:

Completion of Term and Leave of Absence (effective July 15):

The Rev. Rogelio I. Rodriguez, of Philippines: with the completion of his first term in the Diocesan International Priests’ Program and in anticipation of a second term here, has been granted a six-month leave to return to his home Diocese of Davao, Philippines, in accordance with U.S. Immigration policy.

Parochial Vicar (effective Aug. 1):

The Rev. Dominic Obour, of Ghana: to parochial vicar of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Parish, Greensburg.

Completion of Term and Leave of Absence (effective Aug. 14):

The Rev. Alvin E. Cabungcal, of the Philippines: with the completion of his first term in the Diocesan International Priests’ Program and in anticipation of a second term here, has been granted a six-month leave to return to his home Diocese of Lucena, Philippines, in accordance with U.S. Immigration policy while remaining pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, Perryopolis.

Administrator Pro Tem (effective Aug. 14):

The Rev. Efren C. Ambre, of Philippines: from pastor of St. John Baptist de La Salle Parish, Delmont, and St. Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Export, to St. John the Baptist Parish, Perryopolis. He will serve as administrator pro tem from Aug. 14 until the return of the pastor, the Rev. Alvin Cabungcal, from his six-month leave.

Miscellaneous

At the presentation of The Very Rev. Arnold Chrapkowski, OSPPE, Father General of The Order of Saint Paul the First Hermit (Pauline Fathers):
