Orange non-stop begonias, at left, are among flowering plants available at the Derry Area High School greenhouse sale May 8-22, 2020.

Plants from the Derry Area School District greenhouse will be sold to the public weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday through May 22.

As part of covid-19 precautions, a maximum of four adults will be permitted in the greenhouse at a given time and are required to wear masks and practice social distancing. Entry will be via the rear door near the barn. Children won’t be admitted.

Orders may be placed in advance for curbside pick-up by emailing instructor Carly Jean Rippole at crippole@dasd.us. Payment must be by checks payable to The Trojan Florist.

“For more than 35 years we’ve been having a greenhouse sale,” Rippole said, noting Derry Area’s greenhouse is one of the largest among the state’s school-based agriculture programs.

“All the plants are grown by the students,” she said. “We have some really nice Boston fern hanging baskets this year.”

Vegetable plants cost $1 and include peppers, hot peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers and zucchini.

Potted ornamental plants are priced from $2.50 to $5 and include geraniums, petunias, vinca vines, coleus, cactus and begonias. Packs of flowering plants cost $1.50 while hanging baskets cost $12.50.

Bulbs — including lilies, hydrangeas, hyacinths, tulips and daffodils — cost $3.50.

A complete list of available plants can be viewed on the Derry Area School District Facebook page.
