Local Comcast NBCUniversal employees will volunteer at the Westmoreland County Food Bank in Delmont this weekend in advance of the company’s annual “Comcast Cares Day.”

Comcast and Westmoreland County Food Bank volunteers will work together on April 27 to sort food, prepare it for distribution and pack senior boxes, among other projects.

“As we celebrate our 18th annual ‘Comcast Cares Day,’ we are delighted to partner with the Westmoreland County Food Bank to give back to our local community here in Delmont,” said Christine Whitaker, senior vice president of Comcast’s Keystone Region. “It is incredible to see how we can drive meaningful change by bringing together our employees, their friends and families, and our community partners, both on this day and throughout the year. We are thankful for the participants and volunteers who continue to work to make a positive difference.”

The official 18th annual “Comcast Cares Day” is May 4. To date, more than 1 million volunteers have contributed 6 million service hours to about 10,000 community projects.

“The Westmoreland County Food Bank is incredibly grateful for the partnership with Comcast and their efforts on Comcast Cares Day,” said Lauren Hill, the food bank’s director of development. “Without the support from the community and volunteers, we would not be able to provide monthly for the nearly 7,000 households facing food insecurity.”

In 2017, the food bank served more than 15,000 people each month and distributed more than 9 million pounds of food, according to its annual report.
