Reenactors portraying British soldiers march in the woods at the Bushy Run reenactment on Saturday, August 5 2023.

After canceling its annual reenactment of a 1700s battle this summer, Bushy Run will host a new living history event at its museum Saturday.

Bushy Run canceled its August reenactment — which tells the story of a 1763 clash between British soldiers and Native Americans during Pontiac’s War — in July. The move came nearly two weeks after an EF1 tornado blew through the Penn Township battlefield with wind speeds of up to 110 mph.

The tornado uprooted and damaged trees across the Penn Township historical site — a cleanup project that could not be completed before the Aug. 3 and 4 reenactment.

The site reopened in September.

A small group of reenactors Saturday will show visitors artifacts that would have been found in an 18th century frontier trading post — including weapons, tools, trade goods and animal furs. Educators will be available to answer questions.

The living history event will run from noon to 4 p.m. Visitors can also view the museum’s typical displays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission for the event is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The Bushy Run Battlefield museum is located at 1253 Route 993. The museum can be reached by calling 724-527-5584.
