Runners will have a chance to compete in a 3.1-mile race at the Bushy Run Battlefield along Route 993 in Penn Township on June 18 and raise awareness of human trafficking, sexual abuse and assault, and homelessness in the region.

Those participating in the race, Colors for a Cause, will be blasted by colored powder as they run toward the finish line, said Michael Tusay, race coordinator for Grace Collective, a North Huntingdon church sponsoring the event at the historic battlefield.

Proceeds from the race, which begins at 10 a.m., will benefit Rooted OUTreach, a Westmoreland City-based nonprofit. Food and beverage vendors will be available after the race, as well as other family-friendly activities.

Grace Collective wants to sponsor events such as the 5K color run to benefit organizations like Rooted OUTreach, which strives “to educate, change lives and make our world a better place,” Tusay said.

Registration is open at runsignup.com/colorsforacause and will continue though the morning of the race. Runners should register by June 6 to be guaranteed a race T-shirt.

Race packets can be picked up from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 17 at the Grace Collective Church, 275 Brush Creek Road. Race-day check-in begins at 8 a.m. at the battlefield.
