Norwin 6th-grader taken to hospital after being hit by car in front of school
A sixth-grader was hit by a car in front of Hillcrest Intermediate School in North Huntingdon Friday morning.
North Huntingdon EMS Director Shane Spielvogle said the boy was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
The boy was hit while walking to school, Norwin Superintendent Jeff Taylor wrote in a letter sent to parents in the district.
“School administration has been and will continue to be in contact with the family to support them,” Taylor wrote. “Our school counselors and social workers will be available for any students needing additional support today. Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families.”
North Huntingdon police and fire crews responded and North Huntingdon police are investigating.
“The situation is being closely monitored and the district asks for continued thoughts and prayers for the student and family during this time,” said Lauren Steiner, a spokesperson for Norwin School District, in a statement.
Hillcrest Intermediate School is a fifth- and sixth-grade building in Norwin School District, attended by 840 students, according to a district website.
