A Bolivar man was sentenced Tuesday to serve 10 to 20 years in prison for the repeated sexual assaults of a young girl.

Jerry Boring, 60, was convicted by a Westmoreland County jury in April of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault in connection with accusations made by a now 16-year-old accuser who claimed she was the victim of sexual assaults that started in 2017.

The teen testified she was 10 when Boring initiated the sexual contact. Witnesses said she disclosed the alleged sexual assaults while receiving care at an area behavioral health treatment center in 2022, according to witnesses.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio ordered Boring serve a mandatory prison sentence and determined, based on an evaluation from the state’s sexual offenders board, he was a sexually violent predator. Boring faces a lifetime requirement to register as a convicted sex offender.

Prosecutors asked the judge to impose consecutive sentences that would have required Boring serve at least 15 years in prison.

“This was not a one time event. He traumatized the victim and did so again when he acted out following the verdict,” said Assistant District Attorney Katie Ranker.

Just minutes after the jury’s verdict was announced this spring, Boring claimed he wanted to kill himself and lunged towards a second-story window in the courtroom. He had to be subdued by sheriff’s deputies before he was carried out of the courtroom in a headlock. One deputy was treated at a Greensburg hospital for hand and facial injuries sustained in the melee.

Boring denied the sexual assault allegations at trial.

His sister and a long-time friend pleaded with the judge for leniency, saying they did not believe he was capable of the sex crimes for which he was convicted.

Boring is also awaiting trial on unrelated arson and fraud charges in which police said another man set fire to a pickup truck in August 2022 and collected $4,900 from an insurance company.
