Balzer seeks 4th term as Westmoreland controller
Jeffrey Balzer is looking to secure his fourth term at Westmoreland County controller.
Balzer, 57, of Salem, announced his intent to run for reelection to the office he has held since 2012. He is a Republican.
The controller serves as the watchdog over county government and audits the financial performance of all departments.
He touted accomplishments during his tenure, including the impending implementation of a new pension administration system that will allow retirees to get information about their benefits online. Balzer said in an announcement that he has modernized the office and plans to continue to do so.
If he is reelected, Balzer said he hopes to add electronic options for outside agencies bidding on county projects and employees submitting expense forms.
“I am eager to bring the voters up to speed on not only what we’ve accomplished, but also what we have planned,” he said in the announcement.
Balzer said he has held leadership positions in the Pennsylvania State Association of County Controllers and his office had been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association. He is a member of Greensburg Rotary, New Alexandria Lions Club and other community groups.
