Ballot drop-off parking OK'd at Westmoreland courthouse

Westmoreland County officials approved final preparations for the May 20 primary election.

County commissioners, acting as the elections board, on Monday earmarked two short-term parking spaces along Pennsylvania Avenue in Greensburg for voters who wish to drop off mail-in ballots at the elections bureau. The parking spots are near the rear entrance to the courthouse.

No drop boxes for mail-in ballots were approved for this spring’s election.

As of Monday, nearly 25,000 voters requested no-excuse mail-in ballots for the primary. Election Bureau Director Scott Ross said more than 16,600 Democratic voters and 8,200 Republicans have requested mail-in ballots. More than 55,000 Westmoreland County voters cast mail-in ballots for November’s general election.

The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is May 13.
