A mother whose son was murdered in Jeannette in 2019 is among those planning to speak at a rally Saturday evening at St. Clair Park in Greensburg to raise awareness about the importance of stopping gun violence.
Taunja Greer Williamson of Jeannette is the mother of murder victim Mariell McGowan. McGowan was killed on Oct. 28, 2019.
Williamson will speak at the rally, which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the park along North Maple Avenue.
A citizens activist group, Voice of Westmoreland, is sponsoring the rally.
Dr. Marti Haykin, a neurologist at Excela Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, will discuss gun violence as a health problem.
Renee Reitz, advocacy program manager for the anti-violence group Blackburn Center, will discuss the problems of domestic violence, bullying and human trafficking.
Bishop Carl E. Jones Sr. of Greater Parkview Church of Greensburg will speak on the root causes of gun violence.
Justin Blatney, a member of the Westmoreland Racial & Social Justice group, plans to speak on unity and ways to take action for lasting change.
