The Stroll takes over the streets of Ligonier Friday evening.

The dog days of summer are upon us. We have a few ways to celebrate here in Westmoreland County … one more literal than the others.

Rock on

This ain’t your father’s Celtic band! No, this is Seven Nations. And these hard-drivin’ rockers will take over Greensburg’s St. Clair Park Friday for this week’s SummerSounds.

Preshow music by Same Moon starts a little after 6 p.m. and Seven Nations will take the stage at 7 p.m.

'After Midnight'

The final production of the Saint Vincent Summer Theatre season, “Always … Patsy Cline” is filled with her iconic songs — 27 to be exact.

But it’s much more than just a rundown of her hit records that include “Crazy,” “Sweet Dreams” and “Walking After Midnight,” according to Gregory Brandt, producing artistic director and director and professor of theater at Saint Vincent College. Get to know the woman behind the microphone.

Listen as Patsy croons during the musical’s final performances this weekend.

Pooch patrol

See … there really are “dog days of summer” in Westmoreland County. And there are free hot dogs, too! (The kind in a bun, not the kind on a leash.)

Presented by the Westmoreland County Treasurer’s Office and the state Department of Agriculture, the inaugural Dog Days of Summer” event is set for 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Head over to Twin Lakes Park pavilion No. 9 for the aforementioned free hot dogs, as well as chips and drinks. Treasurer’s office staff will be on hand to license your pooch. And, the coolest part of this hot event … local animal adoption agencies and vendors will be there, too. You could even meet a new best friend.

Cruisin' & strollin'

Longing for the good old days? Missing poodle skirts, bobby socks and fast, shiny cars? Well, then you’re in luck this weekend.

Cruise to Ligonier Friday evening for The Stroll. The 17th annual event — 5-9 p.m. — typically draws around 150 antique and classic cars, along with hundreds more nostalgia-minded strollers and dancers.

Ligonier Radio will play oldies tunes from 5-6:30 p.m., when Swing City will take over until 9 p.m.

The Stroll, the annual 1950s-themed car cruise and dance, returns to the Ligonier Diamond on Aug. 9.

Takin' it to the street

Make it a “Funday” and head into Greensburg for Sundays on Pittsburgh 2-6 p.m. Enjoy food truck fare, yard games, music, as well as cocktails and beer in the parking lot just below Hugo’s Taproom, 116 W. Pittsburgh St.

There will also be collection of school supplies for Greensburg Salem at the event. It’s sponsored by the Downtown Greensburg Project.

Food trucks and fun will abound during Sundays on Pittsburgh.

Celebrate summer

Free, free, free! The inaugural day-long Celebrate Summer Music Fest is set for Saturday at Peach Plaza, Unity.

(It’s the park near Twin Lakes with the dog and skate parks.)

The event will include live worship music, free homemade eats, as well as kids’ activities, BMX/skate jam and giveaways. The fest is sponsored by Higher Sounds LLC.
