It’s forecast to be a beautiful weekend — the first one of fall. Here are some fun ways you can spend it.
Mount Pleasant Glass & Ethnic Festival
Starting at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, the annual three-day Glass & Ethnic Festival in Mt. Pleasant will showcase the area’s heritage and its glass industry through Sunday. Located in a small-town neighborhood, the festival will be lined by homes, showcasing a variety of architecture. Streets will be transformed into festive walkways.
Guests can participate in traditions like a pizza eating contest, a cutest pet competition, a cutest baby competition and a beauty pageant. Live rock, jazz and bluegrass music will be heard throughout the festival. For more, visit mtpleasantglassand ethnicfestival.com.
‘Hello, Dolly!’
From Friday through Sunday, the Westmoreland Performing Arts Professional Theatre Company will present the Jerry Herman classic “Hello, Dolly!” at Westmoreland County Community College’s Youngwood campus Science Hall Theater.
The show features Renata Marino as Dolly Levi, Pittsburgh’s David Cabot as Horace Vandergelder, Kevin O’Leary and Anthony Marino as his clerks, Cornelius Hackl and Barnaby Tucker, Latrobe’s Nicole Paluzzi as Irene Molloy and Greensburg’s Alex Podolinski as Ambrose Kemper.
WPA students will be featured in the cast as well. Piper Anke of Derry and Laura Stanish of Connellsville will be double cast as Minnie Fay. Avery Federico of Latrobe, Riley Galloway of Irwin and Laura Hermann of Charleroi will play Horace’s forlorn niece Ermengarde.
Tickets for 7:30 shows on Friday and Saturday are on sale now. There will be a third show scheduled for 2 p.m Sunday. For more, visit thepalacetheatre.org.
Pintwood Derby
The Third Annual Pintwood Derby will be from 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Four Seasons Brewing Co. in Latrobe. Competitors are tasked with making one-of-a-kind wooden cars to race against others.
Watching the races is free, but racers will pay a $25 registration fee that includes a car kit and a drink. All proceeds go to local Scouts.

Bushy Run Market
From 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society Inc. will host the last open air market of the season. A variety of vendors will be featured along with a concession stand providing food items and free coffee and tea to guests.
On each Bushy Run Market day, the battlefield gate opens at 7 a.m. for vendors to set up. They will be grouped according to the items being sold.

Westmoreland Summer Concert Series
Funded by Tri-County Federation of Musicians, Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Program and Music Performance Trust Funds, Westmoreland County’s free summer concert series is coming to an end for 2023 on Saturday.
The last of the series will feature Adam Leonard at 6:30 p.m. and Willow Hill at 8 p.m. at Twin Lakes Park east of Greensburg. Food and drinks will be sold. For more, visit co.westmore land.pa.us.
