This weekend is all about the parties. Decorations, dancing and unveilings make up a full calendar of things to do this weekend in Westmoreland County.

Student exhibition

Beginning Friday, the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Ligonier, off Boucher Lane in Ligonier Township, will open the Artists of the 21st Century, an exhibit displaying the artwork of grade-school students in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fayette, Somerset and Westmoreland, the six counties SAMA serves.

This will be SAMA’s 26th annual student exhibition held in conjunction with national youth art month, and the exhibition is open to schools that participate in SAMA’s arts-in-education or artist-in-residence program.

Through the two programs, SAMA educators and professional artists travel to public schools to provide lessons in art “creation, technique, history, criticism and aesthetics.”

From 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sharon’s Cookies will be hosting a cookie decorating class at the YWCA Westmoreland on Main Street in Greensburg.

The class covers how to decorate with royal icing and is recommended for ages 14 and older. It is $35 to decorate a dozen cookies. For more, call 724-834-9390.

Live Casino Mardi Gras

At 7 p.m. Friday, Live Casino Pittsburgh in Hempfield will host a Mardi Gras celebration.

Live music from Matt Hill and Friends will be performed on the Sports and Social stage. A photo station will be set up for guests along with beads provided to set the scene.

A hurricane drink special will be offered throughout the night, with a balloon and bead drop at midnight. Festivities start on the second floor.
