Friday evening music

The Friday Evening Music Club of the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra will present a recital titled “April in Paris” at 7:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Greensburg, 15 E. Second St.

The program includes:

• Pianist Dr. T.J. Maroon, first movement of Debussy’s “Suite Bergamasque”

• Mezzo-soprano Savannah Simeone, 20th-century works by Judith Cloud, Gian Carlo Menotti and Benjamin Britten.

• Guest soprano Mary Vanden Berk, music from composers Hildegard von Bingen, Vincenzo Bellini and Philippe Rombi.

• Trumpeter Christopher Cox, first movement of the Hummel Trumpet Concerto and J.C. Pennequin’s “Morceau de Concert.”

Donations will be accepted at the door. A reception follows the recital. Masks are optional but recommended.

Who’s the top dog?

Youngwood Dog Club and Top Dog Therapy Team will host a dog pageant at 3 p.m. Saturday at The Old Spitfire Grille, 1517 Broad St., South Greensburg.

Categories will be cutest dog, best dressed/best costume and sweetest senior, for dogs age 10 and older. Entry fee is $10 per category.

Judges will be state Sen. Kim Ward, Westmoreland County Commissioner Gina Cerilli Thrasher and attorney and animal advocate Jessica Rafferty.

First, second and third place winners in each category will receive a prize package.

The event also will feature a doggy menu, basket and 50-50 raffles and vendor tables.

Feline fundraiser

Wayward Whiskers Animal Rescue will host a Cinco de Meowo fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Youngwood Fire Hall, 104 S. Second St.

The event will feature a taco and nacho bar, cash bar, baskets, games, raffles, giveaways and entertainment by the Divine Divas of Drag.

A ticket is $30.

Genesis guitarist

Steve Hackett, longtime lead guitarist of Genesis, brings his world tour to The Palace Theatre in Greensburg for a show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Hackett and his band will play the 1977 Genesis album, “Seconds Out,” in its entirety — a live album that included classics such as “The Carpet Crawlers,” “Firth of Fifth” and “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway”—– along with songs from Hackett’s solo career.

Big band bash

Penn-Trafford Community Band and the Jazz Warriors Big Band will be in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at The Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin.

Penn-Trafford Community Band’s repertoire includes familiar patriotic and inspirational songs, marches, television and movie themes and other popular numbers. The Jazz Warriors started in 2018 as a sub-group of the P-T band, focusing on big band and jazz standards, along with swing, Latin, funk and jazz rock.

A ticket is $10, or $5 for students and seniors.
