Vehicle crashes into Pittsburgh animal shelter
A Pittsburgh animal shelter got an unwanted visitor sometime overnight, and it wasn’t an animal.
The East Side domestic shelter of the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh was apparently hit by a vehicle after the Homewood shelter closed on Wednesday evening.
The exterior brick wall of the shelter suffered significant damage, according to a press release. An interior office in the administrative area also was damaged.
Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh said no one was hurt and all the animals in the shelter are safe. Operations will not be impacted at the East Side shelter which remains open as usual with adoption hours from 1-6 p.m. and the veterinary medical center open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The East Side shelter is located at 6926 Hamilton Ave. in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood.
Pittsburgh Police responded to the call and the crash is being investigated, according to a press release. No vehicle has been located.
This is at least the third time this month that a vehicle has crashed into a building in the Pittsburgh area.
Two people were injured when a vehicle hit a utility pole and then crashed into a business in Washington on April 7, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI. And WPXI reported a garbage truck crashed into a home in Shaler on April 18.
