A Washington Township man pleaded guilty Friday to the assault of an elderly woman and against police during a rampage two years ago.
David A. Gibson, 46, could face up to more than 20 years in prison by virtue of his pleas to four counts of aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, arson and making terroristic threats in connection with an incident on July 25, 2018 at a township home.
Police said Gibson threatened to kill an elderly woman and attempted to beat a man with a pipe and sledge hammer.
According to court records, Gibson hurled a 10-pound weight at police when they arrived on the scene and threatened responding offers with a machete and nunchucks. One officer was hit with a cast iron skillet that was thrown from a window, police said.
During the rampage, police said Gibson set a fire in the home near an upstairs window.
As part of the plea deal approved by Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Tim Krieger, four counts of aggravated assault were dismissed. Gibson will remain in jail, where he is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond, until he is sentenced in about three months.
