After losing about $10,000 in revenue because of the pandemic, organizers of the Vandergrift Fireman’s Carnival are hopeful to recoup much-needed funds with this year’s event.

The carnival kicks off Tuesday and runs through Saturday night in Kennedy Park.

Sponsored by the Vandergrift Volunteer Fire Department, the event is the largest fundraiser for the fire company.

Proceeds from the carnival will help to purchase personal safety equipment, help with vehicle maintenance and repairs and cover training costs.

The carnival has been a summer staple in the borough for more than 30 years.

The Vandergrift Fireman’s Carnival runs Tuesday through Saturday in Kennedy Park in Vandergrift. A dragon ride awaits riders in this 2021 carnival photo.

Vandergrift Councilwoman Marilee Kessler said the carnival holds memories for many borough residents.

“Our three children had so much fun going. There was always funnel cakes, cotton candy and lemonade,” Kessler said. “All of their friends went, too. They loved going and coming back home with stuffed bears bigger than they were.”

Ride-all-night passes are $20.

Concessions, games, food and rides are provided by family-owned Penn Premier Shows, based in Greenock.

Penn Premier Shows opened in 1937 and offers an 18-ride operation, including the Umbrella Combo, Dragon Wagon, Classic Carousel, Sizzler, Round-Up, Magic Carpet Slide and a Ferris wheel.
