While volunteer fire companies are famous for their fish fries and bingos, they do come up with some original fundraisers, too.
More than 25 years ago, the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company presented its first auto parts swap meet and it continues to go strong many years later. Their upcoming meet is set for April 14.
Admission is free. The fire company will be selling food and refreshments.
More than 100 vendors will offer parts and accessories, according to Washington Township Fire Chief Clayton Murphy.
Murphy attributes the success of the swap, which continues to be one of the fire company’s popular fundraisers, to the uniqueness of the event, at least geographically.
“With other fire companies, we don’t like to copy each other’s stuff,” he said.
The meet was originally geared to auto racers and has evolved into a higher-end flea market for auto parts and much more, according to Murphy. Vendors also offer tools, uniforms, lighting, gloves and more.
“You never know what you might find until you show up,” he said.
