Troopers say North Apollo woman killed in crash while fleeing Armstrong County traffic stop
Pennsylvania State Police said a 21-year-old North Apollo woman died after she crashed her vehicle into a tree while attempting to flee a traffic stop Sunday in Armstrong County.
Madison L. Sapinsky was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred on Margaret Road in Plumcreek Township at 7:52 p.m., troopers said.
Sapinsky was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze along Margaret Road when a trooper from the Kittanning station attempted to pull her over for an undisclosed traffic infraction, state police said in a news release.
Police said Sapinsky fled at a high rate of speed and drove off the right side of the roadway as she attempted to navigate a left hand curve, striking a tree. The crash occurred just south of Saint Paul Road.
According to police, Sapinsky’s car caught fire after the crash and the pursuing trooper pulled her from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers reported Sapinsky was not wearing a seat belt.
