Nick Fiasco’s singing career began in the car.

It eventually drove him to the stage.

The Monroeville resident, who grew up in Wilmerding, would listen to cassette tapes of iconic singers like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin and others while driving around for his job as a graphic artist in advertising.

For the past 15 years, he’s the one people have been listening to as he performs songs by these classic entertainers.

Catch Fiasco at “A Valentine’s Day Luncheon Featuring Nick Fiasco” at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Brackenridge American Legion. It has a Las Vegas theme.

It’s the second annual Valentine’s event hosted by the Tarentum Recreation Board. Last year’s program was an Elvis Presley impersonator at Tarenbee, an event venue in Tarentum.

It is not a fundraiser but a way for the Tarentum Recreation Board to give back to the community, says Carrie Fox, council at large and recreation board president.

Guests can enjoy a meal by A Grand Affair Catering and Chef and I Catering in Brackenridge. The menu includes assorted chicken, stuffed cabbage, penne pasta, potatoes, vegetables, rolls, cake and a beverage.

There will be door prizes.

Tickets are $20. The deadline to purchase is Feb. 6.

“All are welcome,” Fox says. “We invite everyone to come out and enjoy a nice afternoon. Nick Fiasco was recommended to the recreation board. We heard he is great, so we can’t wait to listen to him perform.”

People often ask Fiasco if that is his real last name.

“Yes, it is,” says Fiasco, whose repertoire includes 450 songs. “In English it means ‘flask,’ and in Italian it means a ‘flask of wine.’ People aren’t going to forget that name.”

They won’t forget his amazing voice either, says Fox.

Fiasco says he enjoys performing and interacting with the audience and that he can’t take a night off, because “you never know who is in the audience.”

He has performed in California and Las Vegas, as well as at weddings and other celebrations. He says some of his favorite concerts are those for veterans, his way of giving back and thanking them for their service.

When he’s on stage, Fiasco says he feeds off the energy in the room, especially on a day like Valentine’s Day.

“Live performances are great,” he says. “I enjoy entertaining. And for Valentine’s Day I will do some romantic songs. Everyone wants to hear Sinatra for Valentine’s Day. I really love singing. Sinatra because he was a full-blooded Italian. I grew up with this music.”

As he rode around in his car listening to tunes.

The Brackenridge American Legion is located at 845 1st Ave., Brackenridge.
