Property owners in Springdale will pay 18% more in real estate taxes.

The 2025 spending plan increases the borough’s millage rate by 1.5 mills, to 9.75 mills.

Officials have said that assessment appeals on industrial properties led to an $11 million loss in expected revenues, leaving borough property owners to fill the gap.

The owner of a property with the borough’s median assessed value of $82,000 would pay about $801 annually, which is an increase of $123.

Council passed next year’s budget on Tuesday.

“It was a tough decision to make, said Council President Mike Ziencik, “but we had to do it.”

Highlights of the budget include seal-coating Colfax and James streets; Rosslyn Avenue, between Porter and Washington streets; and addressing prior patches from water main breaks.

There is a 4% wage increase for police officers.

Trash collection up, too

Property owners also will see an 8% hike in their garbage collection bills. That rate will increase $5 per month, to $69 per quarter.

A handout from County Hauling provided at this week’s council meeting showed that trash collection will be every Tuesday next year, except the last week of May, when it will be on May 28; and the first week of September, when it will be on Sept. 3.

Trash must be put out the night before collection day, or prior to 6 a.m. the day of collection, according to the letter.

Containers should not exceed 40 gallons and each plastic bag shouldn’t exceed 40 pounds.

All trash containers and bulk items must be within 5 feet of the curb or road. Items not visible, or obstructed from view, won’t be collected.

Trash must be bagged before being placed in the can.

Bulk items will be collected for a fee of $10 per item. Property owners should contact County Hauling’s customer service for scheduling and payment.
