A 50-foot blue spruce that grew in the yard of a Springdale couple was moved to the City County Building in Pittsburgh on Saturday to be decorated for Christmas.

Lindsay and Dennis Malinowski donated the tree, which, in 1987 was a 5-foot-tall Christmas tree of the property’s previous owner, who then replanted it outside.

The tree was cut down Saturday and moved to the portico of the City-County Building on Grant Street. After it gets some cosmetic work and is decorated and strung with lights, it will be unveiled Friday, Nov. 22 as part of Pittsburgh’s Light Up Night festivities.

The Malinowskis along with their children, Lillian, 8, Tessa, 6, and Zyggy, 3, will attend the lighting ceremony with Mayor Bill Peduto.
