A portion of Burtner Road in Harrison has closed so crews can repair a slide in the area, PennDOT said Wednesday.

Burtner Road is expected to be closed to traffic around the clock between Buchanan Street and Karns Road through late October, PennDOT said.

The work was planned and is not related to the rain and flooding the area saw Wednesday from the remnants of Hurricane Ida, PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said.

Signs will be posted to guide motorists around the closure.

The posted detour will use Freeport Road, Oak Manor Drive and Karns Road.

The improvements are expected to cost just under $1 million. Other work in the area will include paving, drainage improvements and retaining wall construction. Crews from Plum Contracting are doing the work.
