Allegheny Township officials are reminding drivers that a section of Markle Road will close Thursday because of a landslide.

The road will be closed between Park Road and Pine Run Road, and remain closed until further notice.

Traffic will be detoured.

The marked detour uses Markle Road, White Cloud Road and Route 356, according to PennDOT Spokeswoman Valerie Petersen.

“This detour is in place due to a slide and will remain until necessary repairs to the roadway are complete,” township officials said in the post.

Petersen did not know when the slide occurred, but said “our crews were watching it for a while.”

She couldn’t say what type of repair work will be done to the slide, or when that work is expected to be completed.

“We will have our geotechnical engineers look at it and determine the best repairs to do. That has not occurred yet,” Petersen said. “We have more than 250 slides in our four-county area that we are currently monitoring and prioritizing.”

Motorists are advised to stay alert, adhere to the posted speed limits and follow detour directions during the closure.
