Sandy Hook mom to speak again at Burrell in November

The Burrell School District on Nov. 11 will bring back Scarlett Lewis, the mother of a 6-year-old son who was one of 26 people killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in 2012.
Lewis will give a presentation open to the public about her story and Choose Love Enrichment Program. The Burrell School Board recently approved her visit. Details of her presentation at Burrell are forthcoming.
Lewis enthralled Burrell teachers, students, administrators, law enforcement and others when she visited in May to tell her story.
Lewis’ presentation earlier in the year was part of the district’s new curriculum, Choose Love, which focuses on building positive relationships, managing emotions and demonstrating empathy.
Burrell is among the first Pennsylvania school districts to incorporate the Choose Love program in a major way, according to Marissa Ameris as the district’s social and emotional learning specialist.
The Choose Love Enrichment Program has been downloaded more than 28,000 times by more than 11,400 educators in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., and in more than 70 countries.
