PennDOT is alerting motorists of closures Thursday of the off-ramp from northbound Route 28 to Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road (Exit 8) in the City of Pittsburgh and the off-ramp from southbound Route 28 to Fox Chapel Road (Exit 8) in O’Hara.
Crews from Swank Construction Co. will be installing new guardrail from 7 to 9 a.m. on northbound Route 28 and 3 to 5 p.m. on southbound Route 28.
Motorists using the detour route from northbound Highland Park Bridge to southbound Route 28 should consider using the alternative route. The posted detours are as follows:
Northbound Route 28 to Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road:
• From northbound Route 28 continue past the closed Fox Chapel Road/Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road exit (Exit 8)
• Take the RIDC Park (Exit 10) exit
• Turn left onto Gamma Drive
• Turn left onto the ramp to Route 28 southbound
• Take the Fox Chapel (Exit 8) exit
Southbound Route 28 to Fox Chapel Road (Exit 8):
• Take the RIDC Park (Exit 10) exit
• Turn right onto Gamma Drive
• Turn left onto Alpha Drive
• Turn right onto Freeport Road
Northbound Highland Park Bridge to southbound Route 28:
• Take Route 8 (Butler Street/Washington Boulevard) northbound
• Turn right onto the 62nd Street Bridge
• Take the ramp to Route 28 via Sharpsburg
• Continue straight on Bridge Street
• Turn left onto the ramp to southbound Route 28.
