An Arnold man who failed to show up for a hearing on felony drug charges in 2020 was arrested Tuesday after his girlfriend called police while they were arguing.
Police said the suspect ran off when they showed up at the house but dropped a backpack with drugs inside as he fled. That resulted in additional charges.
Ja’Myiah Ray Green, 25, of 15th Street was charged Tuesday, Feb. 15 by Tarentum police with felony possession of drugs with the intent to deliver and two misdemeanor counts of drug possession, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.
He faces a preliminary hearing March 2 before District Judge Carolyn S. Bengel.
Green is being detained in the Westmoreland County jail in connection with a Jan. 23, 2020, arrest by Arnold police. A $50,000 cash bail was set at his arraignment but he was unable to post a bond, according to court records.
Green was charged in 2020 with two felony counts of possession of drugs with the intent to deliver, a felony count of criminal use of a communications facility and two other drug possession charges but did not show up at his March 5, 2020, preliminary hearing, court records show.
According to the complaint filed in the 2020 case, an Arnold police informant made a controlled buy of cocaine from Green during an undercover operation.
A preliminary hearing on the 2020 charges is scheduled for March 3 before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr.
Police say Green was taken into custody after they were dispatched to a home in the 700 block of Second Avenue in Tarentum shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday. A woman called police to report she and her boyfriend were arguing and that he was trying to get into her home, the complaint said.
Police said that when they arrived, Green ran toward Third Avenue and officers chased him on foot.
While being pursued, Green dropped a black backpack with 6 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of powdered cocaine, rolling papers and a plastic bag with an unknown purple substance inside, the complaint said.
Green was picked up a short time later when officers spotted him walking near the intersection of Brackenridge Avenue and Mile Lock Lane.
Green had a scale with residue on it that tested positive for cocaine along with $385, police said.
