A resident of the Sheldon Park Apartments in Harrison faces multiple charges after neighbors told police he pointed a gun at a group of people before firing a shot into the air, police said.
Trenton Ezell Simmons, 31, was charged with two felony gun charges along with making terroristic threats, harassment and eight counts of reckless endangerment in connection with the March 17 incident, according to a criminal complaint.
He was released from custody on a non-monetary bond and faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Carolyn Bengel on March 30, according to court records.
Police were dispatched to the Allegheny County public housing complex shortly after 8:15 p.m. for a report of a group outside fighting and shooting firearms, the complaint said.
Responding officers spoke to a group of seven adults and a juvenile who told them a man they knew only by his Facebook name, “Brooks Price,” approached them while they were outside an apartment and became confrontational, according to the complaint.
The man, who was later identified as Simmons, told the group that they were “scaring his 7-year-old son” before he began pushing one of the men, witnesses told police.
Simmons is accused of pulling a gun from his waistband, pointing it at each member of the group and then firing a round into the air, causing them to scatter, the complaint said.
A live 9mm round and a spent shell casing that were from the same maker and had the same markings were recovered from the scene, according to police.
Police surrounded Simmons’ apartment and waited for him to come out before taking him into custody, according to his arrest papers.
Simmons’ wife confirmed his identity to police. She told them that he doesn’t possess a gun but she possessed one, which was confiscated as evidence, the complaint said.
Police said Simmons’ criminal history, which includes arrests for felony gun violations, makes him ineligible to possess a firearm.
