Police: Brackenridge woman leapt from second-story window in New Kensington to avoid arrest

New Kensington police say a woman leaped out of a second-story window to get away from officers who came to arrest her for trashing a house and swinging a knife at the owner when he told her to leave.
Khayla Jean Loughner, 32, of Eighth Avenue, Brackenridge, was charged with felony counts of criminal trespass and possession of a controlled substance as well as lesser counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness in connection with the Jan. 25 incident, which occurred on her birthday, according to a criminal complaint.
Loughner is being detained in the Westmoreland County Prison after failing to post a $10,000 cash bond, according to court records. She faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. on Feb. 10, according to court records.
Police were dispatched to a home in the 400 block of Charles Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. for a report of a dispute involving a woman who was breaking items in the house, according to the complaint.
The home’s owner said Loughner had been staying at the house but he ordered her to leave because she was using drugs and stealing items, police said.
He told police Loughner began “trashing” the house when he told her to go and began swinging a knife at him, according to the complaint.
Officers said the house was in disarray and that an aquarium had been tipped over.
When an officer went to a second-floor bedroom where Loughner was located, he saw her jump from a window to the backyard and run off, the complaint said.
A police dog was dispatched to the scene and tracked Loughner to the basement of a home in the 400 block of Freeport Road, where she surrendered, police said.
When police searched Loughner, they found a glass pipe with suspected marijuana residue in her hooded sweatshirt along with nine tablets of various prescription sedatives and a drug to treat psychosis, the complaint said.
When a female officer strip searched Loughner, she discovered 1.23 grams of crack cocaine in her pants pocket, police said.
Police said they also learned there was an arrest warrant for Loughner.
Court records show that she was sentenced to jail on July 7 after pleading guilty in Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court to misdemeanor charges of drug possession and making false statements to law filed by Arnold police in July 2020.
