If it seems as if the 2022-23 school year just wrapped up, consider that a new one is right around the corner.

The first day of Plum School District classes is Aug. 23, but even before the start of the month, students already were preparing for activities to come.

Among them were students in the high school marching band, which began July 31 with a two-day “Rookie Camp” for new members.

Full camp started Aug. 2 and was scheduled to run through Aug. 15, wrapping up with a preview show that day at 1 p.m. All are welcome, according to Bethany Loy, high school director of bands.

The Plum High Marching Band will perform in Kennywood Park’s Fall Fantasy Parade on Aug. 16. The band will be a fixture at Mustangs football games during the regular season, which starts Sept. 1 against Fox Chapel Area.
