The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh will throw a free public star gazing party at Kunkle Park in Washington Township on June 15.

If conditions are right, the public will be treated to views of the moon’s craters, rays, plains and mountains as well as brightly colored double stars, star clusters and several of the planet Jupiter’s moons and cloud details, according to Terry Trees of the Amateur Astronomers Association.

The star gazing party will start at dusk, weather permitting.

Kunkle Park is located behind the Washington Township Municipal Building, 285 Pine Run Church Road, which has an Apollo address if using GPS.

For more astronomy information and details about AAAP club meetings and observatories, visit their web page. The public can also visit AAAP on “public nights” at the Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Park in West Deer Township.
