Pittsburgh man charged with starting brawl at Zone 28 in Harmar
A Pittsburgh man picked a fight with numerous patrons at Harmar’s Zone 28, leading to a massive brawl inside the bowling alley and entertainment complex, according to police.
Damiene Young, 28, is charged with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, harassment and failure to disperse in connection with the Friday night brawl.
According to the criminal complaint against Young, a sheriff’s deputy working security at Zone 28 noted a fight between Young and a woman around 11:45 p.m. The deputy stepped between the woman and Young, who then started fighting with someone else.
The deputy said he broke up that scuffle, but it had a cascading effect that led to “about 20 to 30” people fighting inside the venue, according to the complaint.
He and another deputy used pepper spray to break up some of the chaos, he said.
More officers arrived, and the fights dissipated, according to the complaint. Young walked outside to the parking lot where he tried to start another fight, the complaint said. The deputy said he tried to take Young into custody and Young “attempted to square up.”
The deputy said Young resisted arrest and it took several officers to take him into custody.
The entertainment complex offers dozens of bowling lanes, laser tag, an arcade, event space and a sports bar, billing itself as a family-friendly venue.
A post to the venue’s Facebook page the day after the brawl noted that weekend hours will now go only until midnight, and the late-night bowling special is canceled until further notice. In addition, all minors will have to be accompanied by an adult after 8 p.m.
