Out & About: Manos Gallery showcases women artists at Tarentum Night Market

Downtown businesses and restaurants stay open late and offer deals during the monthly Tarentum Night Market.

During the Aug. 10 event , The Manos Gallery hosted an open house to showcase the work of three women artists, including Sarah Hunter of Greensburg.

Hunter visited with guests and talked about the work in her exhibit, “So the Sky Fell.” She was accompanied by her husband, James Kuhns.

“My name on my website and on Instagram is ‘The Censored Artist,’ but at this place, I feel like I can really be myself,” Hunter said.

Hunter wrote poems to accompany many of her paintings, a survey of work from 2018 to the present.

”Sarah had been here before with the Pittsburgh Society of Artists,” said Ernesto Camacho Jr., the gallery’s art director. “I absolutely loved her work then and I love it more now.

“I was intrigued with what she could bring, and she brought a nice, diverse style of work, with a nice price range for everyone’s budget,” he said.

Also featured in the show, running through Aug. 30, are Luanne Haak of Pittsburgh and Linda Sadecky of Lower Burrell.

Kelly Geary, a pharmacist by vocation and painter by avocation, traveled from Jeannette to support her friend Hunter.

Patty Schubert of Tarentum dropped in with her grandchildren, Alaina and Tyler Schubert of Natrona Heights. She said she never misses a chance to visit the gallery during Night Market.

Held on the second Thursday of the month from April through November, the event also features individual arts and crafts vendors set up along downtown streets.

The best part of the art show for Tyler Schubert was spending time with Sebastian, the gallery’s resident mini-golden doodle.
