A man charged with disorderly conduct in January — for taking bites out of food at a North Apollo supermarket and returning the items to shelves — is now facing a felony drug charge after police say they found methamphetamine in his vehicle when it was searched this week.
Kiski Township police on Friday charged Ryan Fredericks, 27, of Johnstown, with a felony count of possession with intent to deliver drugs and two other drug-related charges, according to court records.
Police said Fredericks was under the influence of methamphetamine on Jan. 28 when he was seen going up and down the aisles at Held’s Shop ‘n Save, taking bites out of food before returning them to the shelves.
He also was spotted opening a box of facial tissues, blowing his nose and returning the used tissue to the box, police said.
Police charged Fredericks with disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia along with providing false identification to law enforcement.
He was detained in the Armstrong County Jail until Feb. 7, when a Pittsburgh bail agency posted a $5,000 bond to secure his release, court records show.
Fredericks was ordered to stand trial on the charges filed in connection with the supermarket incident during his preliminary hearing before District Judge James Andring on Feb. 9.
Kiski police added the drug charges after obtaining a search warrant for his vehicle, which was impounded from the grocery store parking lot.
Police said they searched the vehicle on Feb. 10 and discovered a large quantity of methamphetamine along with more than $3,000 in cash.
Kiski police said on Friday that Fredericks was taken into custody and is being detained in the Westmoreland County Jail to await a court appearance on the drug charges.
