No one injured in Parks Township house fire

A smoldering cigar ash was the cause of a fire Saturday evening in Parks Township, officials said.

Parks Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Chief Jay Start said the fire happened around 6:45 p.m. at a home on Fitzgerald Lane.

Start said the homeowner was smoking a cigar and some of the ashes had gotten onto a chair in the living room. The homeowner thought he put the ashes out and went outside where he was having a picnic. He later heard the smoke alarm go off inside.

“It hadn’t spread and, luckily, we made a fast attack,” Start said. “There was some damage, but it’s very salvageable.”

No one was injured and firefighters cleared the scene by around 8:30 p.m.
