Fourteen fire departments were called to a blaze just after 7 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Elwood Avenue in Plum.

At least 14 departments responded to a two-alarm house fire Tuesday morning in Plum, authorities said.

The fire was reported around 7 a.m. in the 100 block of Elwood Avenue, according to Glenn Kopec Jr., assistant chief of Unity Volunteer Fire Department. It took about 45 minutes to knock down the fire, the assistant chief said.

Kopec said no one was injured, but some animals might not have made it out of the house safely.

The resident of the home was outside when firefighters arrived. It’s unclear if the resident was home when the fire started, Kopec said.

Authorities temporarily evacuated people from neighboring homes because of how close together the homes are in the area. Some were evaluated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation, but further treatment was not required.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
