A New Kensington man was arraigned this week on charges accusing him of sexually assaulting a girl when she was 9 years old.
New Kensington police said Chester Elmer Green Jr., 61, has “vehemently denied” the allegations. He faces felony charges of aggravated indecent assault of a child and corruption of minors and misdemeanor counts of indecent assault of a person under 13 and endangering the welfare of children.
A criminal complaint filed against Green said the alleged victim’s mother brought the girl, now in her teens, to the police station in September to file a report that she had been sexually assaulted when she was 9.
The alleged victim was interviewed by A Child’s Place, a private nonprofit specializing in the prevention and evaluation of child abuse and neglect.
The girl said Green told her to never tell anyone about what happened, and that she would no longer have parents if she told them. She told police that she didn’t tell anyone about the assault because she was concerned for her parents’ safety, but realized as she got older that she didn’t think Green would harm or kill them.
Police said Green denied the allegations when he was interviewed in September. He did not have an attorney listed Wednesday in online court records.
Police said the investigation report was sent to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Green was arraigned Tuesday and released after posting $40,000 bond Wednesday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 4 before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr.
