The Kittanning Citizens Bridge was closed Monday, Aug. 12, and Tuesday, Aug. 13, for filming of the Netflix Manhunt series. In this photo from 2010, the bridge was transformed to look like the Lower Trenton Bridge in New Jersey as film crews shot scenes for "One for the Money" during a four-day period. The bridge has been used in other movies and television pilots.

The Kittanning Citizens Bridge and parts of South Water Street are closed thorough about 8 p.m. so TV production crews can get less than five minutes of video on the bridge.

Traffic is being rerouted to the Graff Bridge, PennDOT said Tuesday.

Kittanning police Chief Bruce Matthews said the Netflix “Manhunt” series started Monday to recreate a FBI traffic stop in 1986 for the Georgia Olympic Park bomber.

Netflix is producing season two of the Manhunt series. This season is tentatively called “Manhunt: Lone Wolf” and will focus on the search for Eric Rudolph, who eventually pleaded guilty to the bombing at Centennial Olympic Park during the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

The scene using the bridge will depict a FBI traffic stop at a bridge and a suspect trying to blow through it, Matthews said.

“We’re biting nails now with the rain hoping to get this done by 8 p.m.,” he said.

At 10 a.m. there was light rain in Kittanning.

The green bridge with girders is a stand-in for one in Murphy, NC. Rudolph was arrested in Murphy after five years on the run as a suspect in the bombing.

Matthews said the bridge looks like many bridges from the 1980s. Many have been replaced by modern structures like the Graff Bridge that has concrete barriers and not girders above the span like Citizens Bridge.

“The bridge seems to focus of their attention, and they like our downtown architecture. It has kept us on the radar,” the chief said.

Matthews has been part of planning meeting for weeks.

“It’s amazing to see it come together,” he said.

The bridge scene will likely not last long on the screen.

“They told me if it last 5 minutes that would be an exaggeration,” Matthews said.
