Paving to restrict, close Route 910 in Harmar
Traffic on part of Route 910 in Harmar will be restricted during the day Tuesday ahead of an overnight closure for paving, PennDOT announced.
Traffic will be restricted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. between the Route 28 interchange and Rich Hill Road.
That area will then be closed from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday. Traffic will be detoured.
The Route 28 interchange will stay open to Route 910 traffic south of the closure, PennDOT said. Drivers on northbound Route 910 south of the closure traveling beyond Gulf Lab Road will be forced to access either northbound or southbound Route 28.
Weight limit placed on deteriorating Allegheny Township bridge
A weight limit has been placed on the 71-year-old White Cloud Road Bridge over Route 56 in Allegheny Township after an inspection found deterioration, PennDOT announced.
The new restriction limits the weight of single vehicles to 23 tons and combination vehicles, trucks pulling trailers, to 27 tons, except for emergency vehicles with permits issued by PennDOT.
The bridge, built in 1953, did not previously have a weight restriction. It was put in place after a special inspection found deterioration of the bridge’s primary load-carrying members.
The limit is intended to reduce strain on the bridge and keep it safe until “significant rehabilitation” can occur, which PennDOT said is not expected for several years.
Of the nearly 400 vehicles that use the bridge daily, 19% are trucks that will be affected by the weight limit, according to PennDOT.
Vehicles exceeding the weight limit should use Routes 56, 356 and Melwood Road, a detour of about 14 miles, PennDOT said.
