Political newcomer Mike Hammill appears to have won the Republican nomination for O’Hara council in Ward 3.
According to unofficial results from the Allegheny County Office of Elections, Hammill earned 105 votes. His opponent, Greg Caprara, received 39 votes.
The pair sought the Republican nomination for the fall ballot; there were no Democrats running for the seat.
Hammill said he is running for political office because he has “real concerns where the township council is going.”
He sees flooding and zoning issues as the top priorities to be addressed by O’Hara leaders.
The Navy veteran is an O’Hara native who currently works as a dialysis technician with FKC West Penn.
Prior to the election, Hammill told the Tribune-Review that his mission is to keep a good fiscal policy, support EMS services and fire departments and stop the cancel/woke agenda, among other issues.
His opponent, Caprara, was appointed to council about five months ago to serve the remainder of a vacancy through 2021.
He is a consultant who worked previously as the assistant athletic director for Fox Chapel Area High School.
