A man was hospitalized after being injured in a crash Tuesday afternoon in Plum.

Allegheny County dispatchers said the one-vehicle crash occurred along the 300 block of Route 909 around 2:45 p.m.

Witnesses said a white truck was traveling toward Somma Pizza Restaurant and Sports Bar when it went off the road and smashed into a pole.

“I heard him crash and ran for him,” said Shelby Vogel of Wexford, who was taking a computer class nearby at the time. “Then I saw the poor gentlemen stuck in his vehicle and called the people who could actually help him.

“He was totally coherent and shocked definitely. He wanted help getting out of the vehicle, but he was not able to get out of the vehicle because the vehicle was wrapped around him.”

Vogel said police used tools to extract the driver.

Plum EMS director of operations Brian Maloney said the occupant sustained significant injuries, and was taken to Forbes Hospital in stable condition.

Plum police are investigating. Calls to the officers were not immediately returned.
