The Leechburg Police Department is located at 260 Market St.

A Leechburg police officer has been issued two citations stemming from a traffic incident in Parks Township.

Clarence Lee Schumaker was charged April 9 by state police for careless driving, obedience to a traffic control device warning of hazardous conditions and disorderly conduct.

According to Leechburg police Chief Jason Schaeffer, Schumaker has remained on the job since the incident.

Schaeffer said he isn’t certain about what took place. He found out about the citations when he received a call from state police asking him whether Schumaker works for his department. Schaeffer said Schumaker did not inform him about the accident.

“I’ll be interested to see what actually happened when it goes to court,” he said.

Schumaker could not immediately be reached. He did not answer phone calls Friday afternoon and a voice message could not be left; he also did not respond to a text message or email.

It is unclear whether any type of punishment was extended to Schumaker. Schaeffer said that it is up to Leechburg’s mayor and council president to decide suspensions.

Council President Tom Foster said it is a state police matter and had no comment about the situation.

Leechburg Mayor Doreen Smeal and PennDOT did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
