Kiski Area School District and its secretaries have a new, 5-year contract calling for average 2.35 percent raises over the life of the contract, according to Peggy Gillespie, the district’s assistant to the superintendent for finance and operations.

The new contract takes effect July 1 and covers 19 secretaries represented by the Kiski Area Educational Support Professionals. Starting salaries will be set at $18.33 per hour under the new contract.

The employees will continue to contribute to their health care. The new contract calls for them to contribute between 7% and 10% of their health care costs, which is about the same rate as in their previous contract, according to Jennie Bowman, union president and an administrative assistant in the district’s athletic department.

There were no big changes in the new contract, according to Bowman.

“We collaborated with board and administration and I believe both sides were pleased with the outcome,” she said.
